Saturday LBB Gallery Share - Peace

I've never been in the fashion or retail industry so maybe someone can explain to me how so many stores can come out with similar things at once? Do they have manufacturing spies? Do they collaborate? Do they read some "trend" report that says "make peace signs this season"? It seems every store is stocked with some version of peace signs these days which is fine by me because I LOVE peace signs. I even found a few shirts at Costco for myself the other day.....but then Boo loved all the rhinestones on one of them so much that I made it into a dress for her:

And then I went back to Costco and bought another for myself...so we could match (which was kind of fun running around town in "mommy and me" outfits....we got a bunch of double takes):

Note: Sorry the image is in mirror image.....I just figure out my Mac photo booth is on that setting.

Sienna has outgrown her peace sign dress from last summer.....

......so now she has an updated one in the new LBB racer back style.....complete with a touch of tie dye like the last one (inspired by the boy version from Chasing Fireflies).

I've been putting a few distressed peace signs in my Etsy shop every few days as well. So be on the lookout for them!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

  2. I was in the children's wear design industry for a few years and there are trend reports that come out a few seasons ahead of time that everyone uses when developing their collections. Also if a trend was big in high fashion then it will trickle down and eventually make it down to us normal shoppers. My guess is the 60's flower child look was big on the runway and now it's been translated down to the masses with peace signs.

  4. Yes I am aware of it two they have reports and they monitor high fashion trends. But it is ok because each creation is unique anyways no meter how you try to copy for example they wont come out same as someones. Yours look gorgeous no store can compare LOL

  5. I was just having this conversation with a friend! I have bought 2 peace sign shirts for me (both Target "vintage" line), Ellie got a new wicked sweet peace sign shirt from Nordstrom (rack) last week.
Aleah has a few already too, and I was just thinking about attempting my sharpie tie dye with this same "symbol"....
I too, am a flower child though, and have always been into the whole peace movement :)

  7. Felicia is right. They do it for colors, too. I watched a special on tv once about how the color gurus get together and chose the colors for the coming season, which they are looking at a year or more in advance. So, that is why you walk around the stores right now and all the girls clothing seems to look like the same color scheme. It is!

  8. They are so cute Ashley! I think things come back (or around) in cycles. Peace signs are always around too.... We just see more of them every so often. I remember they real big when I was in High School you weren't cool unless you had a peace sign LOL! Look at "My Little Ponies" They came back as did The Ninja Turtles and Transformers. My Hubby and I pulled out our old Turtles, and Transformers for Stan and I dug out my old "My Little Ponies" For the girls. I think you are doing a great job, you are fantastic!

  9. well, i did fashion at college, and what happens is that when designers have fashion shows/ runways, they invite managers of chain stores, and they take things from what they see, so if they saw a design with a belt they really thought would sell, they would make something simular to it to go into their stores, thats why designers have such outragous clothing going onto the runways, as they like to inspire others, even if it was the way a skirt was shaped or the fabric they used. x

  12. Aw, I love looking at photos of kiddos taken at the same point in time a year ago! My girls always look like such babies in those photos from just a year ago, and then I think--I can't believe they'll look like babies to me a year from now!

  13. Felicia has it right. I was in the fashion industry for 11 years, before becoming a sahm. There is actually forecasting companies that all they do is follow trends. Each company create their own fashion and color trend books based on what they see on the runways and street trends. These forecasting companies charge clothing manufacturers a lot money for their services. I don't see it as copying. Most people can't afford the high end fashion, so companies make knock-offs and make it there version.
