10,000 years ago.....

...there was probably a lake or ocean here. Thank you ancient lake for leaving all this sand behind in the desert and giving me a sandy back drop for a "beachy" photo shoot. I found this sea shell (slightly cheesy) printed knit to make some dresses out of.....so I lugged my camera along to the park for some photos this morning.

Let me make one thing clear: I am not a photographer. I pretty much take 400 photos, on every possible setting, and hope for one or two to turn out.

Our photo shoots are kind of hysterical....it is mostly myself trying to get Boo to copy something I do. She refuses to look at the camera. Today I resorted to throwing rocks into bushes to get her to look another direction.

Here I was preparing to take the perfect photo.....and she fell backwards out of the picture:

We play for a while and then I realize I've overstayed my welcome......and we've missed the beginning of nap-time:

  1. Glad to see the meltdown photo so I know it's not just mine that does that. And I love the throwing rocks tactic, I'm going to try that. BTW the dress is great!

  2. Good to see you're just like us!!! Don't you hate it when you push naptime? Always a mistake! Love the dress!

  3. Getting kids to pose for photos is so hard! I can't even tell you how many "empty" photos I have when a kid moved out of the picture in the split second it takes to push the button.

  5. I always resort to food as a bribe and then end up with pics of them with crumbs on their faces!

What kind of camera do you have? I want to be one of the cool kids with a SLR...

  7. Love your beachy dress and desert photo shoot :) It reminds me of Joshua Tree, where my family used to go on vacation when I was little.

  10. At least you got some good ones before the melt down! Mine just wants my camera and automatically screams! It is horrible! Maybe I need some type of play camera, she has some but I think she wants the real thing! Maybe when she gets a bit older!

  11. hilarious and encouraging - i have two boys and i thought all you ladies with little girls just had an easy time of photographing them! my boys are so tired of me photoing their every move that the immediately stop their cuteness when they see the camera and make mean faces or look away:)

  13. These made me laugh out loud because this is pretty much how most of our shoots are. Then I look at Dana's, with her smiling, looking-at-the-camera-Lucy...and I envy. but hey, out of 400 pictures, I, too, always....well, usually...have one or two that turn out:)

  14. I LOVE the last picture! Want to know my best trick to make them look? Pez dispensers. If you have an SLR take a Pez dispenser and cut the "feet" so that they are straight enough to fit into the hot shoe. Slide it in and have them look at "Hello Kitty" or "Spiderman"...which ever Pez you have. Be sure it's filled and promise them one if they smile at the Pez! :) Works almost all the time!

  22. I spent the first 7 years of my oldest's life sneaking up on her to get face shots! I comfort myself in the knowledge that she will never be shamed into doing anything good or bad!
