My inspiration for this challenge was Alexander McQueen. I love the butterfly prints and hair pieces that several of his past collections have included and wanted to do something similarly inspired but still appropriate for a child.
I took a basic light grey cotton/lycra knit and created a whimsical butterfly print using different colors of inks and diluted fabric paint. The butterflies are silk screened in different colors and additional colors were added by hand painting the fabric.
I created the pattern for a halter jumpsuit "Project Runway" style.....using a toddler mannequin. The final version is double layered in the chest and straps.......
For styling, I took a flamboyant head band and added in some butterflies for more drama. This outfit is comfortable and forgiving....perfect for toddler play! Sassy! (Note: my daughter calls this her pirate pose....argggh!)
Please go over and support the contest this weekend and vote for your favorite design! Thank you!
Oh, and how could I forget!? A special thank you to my little model Boo.....for putting up with me and cooperating during this contest. Cheese!
I LOVE it and all the pictures. Looks like you have a little ham on your hands:)
ReplyDeleteHow cute Ashley!
ReplyDeleteI love the headpiece and Boo's pirate pose!
I think I enjoy the toddler version of this much more than the adult version :D That headband is fantastic as well and your model seems to be enjoying herself!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest little girl outfit I have ever seen! So darling and matches your inspiration PERFECTLY! xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou've got my vote! I love this. You are so talented and creative! Your little girl is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie. As you have proven in the past she could make a "tater sack" look good. Fortunatly with you as a mom she can where anything. Great Job as always!!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I' inspired to make something similar but wondering if it'll look weird on a 7 year old. It's really cute on Boo. So far you have all my votes. Your style is real. Things I would buy for my girl to wear.
ReplyDeleteLove the "floating" butterflies, they make the headpiece unique! And Boo's pirate pose is adorable! My son has an expression he likes to use in our photo shoots but somehow his tongue sticking out with googly eyes doesn't seem so cute...HAHA!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab little model! Love the outfit!! ...and I recognize those butterflies on her head ;)
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this outfit! I can't to make my daughters some jumpers like this! I forgot all about these, but man I remember them now! I had a ton of them as a kid! Love that they are back in style for kids now!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I keep coming back to look at Boo's pirate pose. That has got to be the cutest thing I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteLove your designs! And your daughter is absolutely adorable!!
ReplyDeleteIs there anyway that there might be a tutorial on the way about how to make the actual outfit? It looks like it would be fun to make. I did your Border Fabric Sundress tutorial last week and the dresses came out SO cute. Hope a tute for this jumper is a possibility!! :)
