For the love of horses....

All horses deserve, at least once in their lives, to be loved by a little girl.

Gorgeous photos by Paint the Moon Photography. Horse Dress and Ruffle Capris by Lil Blue Boo. Thank you Annie for the beautiful photos of your daughter!

My best memories growing up are of my horses and my friends I rode with. We spent every minute we could at the barn with our horses: riding, grooming, mucking and goofing off. I can categorize my younger years by which horse I had at the time: Blitz, Chocolate, Beowulf, Tweed, and Andy. Each one was perfectly unique in spirit and taught me something completely new about myself.....

Blitz was my first pony....he'd been hit by a motorcycle years before he and I met and lost much of the feeling in his face....he's about to drag me across the street in this photo (I'm on the left with the sweet perm and pegged jeans):

Here I am with Harris Tweed (wow....20 years ago).....he had the reputation for throwing his previous owners into jumps. He continued that tradition with me.....but only in the show ring when we had an audience. Out in the field, with no saddle and no fear, we'd stack up cinder blocks on top of oil drums and make the jumps higher and higher and it was like we were invincible.....

And then the love of my teenage life: Andy

Andy didn't make it as a racehorse....and that's how he ended up with me. He was perfect...and just a little bit crazy. I took him fox hunting a few times and he would take off in a full run with the hounds as if he were back on the track......the type of fast where you can barely feel the horse anymore.

How many of you are horse lovers? :)

Note: Pink and purple Lil Blue Boo silk screened horse dresses available for a limited time in the shop until we run out of horse print.

  1. Me! my heart melted when I saw these pictures. I have been horse lover since I was born, my mom told me that even when I was toddler, I was pointing horses all the time that I wanted to go touch them, not other animals. I rode 15 years, until I had my accident with one of my leasing horse. I broke my neck, and still 5 years after, I have problems with my back. I still want someday to have my own horse, to have the same feeling. I love horses too much :)

  2. Awwww, I LOVE horses! My Dad bought me a beautiful dapple grey Arabian/Quarter horse gelding when I turned 13! He was amazing, three years old and green broke so it took a lot of work to calm him down a bit, then it turned out he was a one person horse and wouldn't let anyone else ride him without dumping them off...lol, crazy horse! Needless to say my Dad ended up buying a older horse for my siblings:) My baby passed away while I was away at college, miss my baby every day...

  3. sounds just like me!
I used to have a racehorse as well. It used to follow me around like a dog without cord. My friends and I spent our whole life in the barn. Sometimes I wonder what if my kids are going to love horses the way I did.

  4. Boy do I ever miss my horses!! I raised and trained them when I was younger. Then I worked on a race track when I got older. I was always too tall and too heavy to be a jockey. I think a 110 lb 5'8 person is just WAY too skinny!! LOL I did exercise a few race horses tho. My fave horse of all time was Copper. He was the love-o-my-life. Big brassy chestnut QH/Appy. If it wasn't for his stripped hooves and molted nose, nobody would have ever known he wasn't a pure QH! *sigh*

  5. You have one here! I got my first horse at 11 and second (her baby) at 12 and had them until I was 28 and the mare was well over 30. After they werent with us anymore we got 2 more AND a mini donkey....my husband put in an 80x100 outdoor arena for me to use....after I have this baby I am back in the saddle! We also have a mini donkey for my 2 year old daughter. That is also one of my favorite quotes!

  6. Oh me, me! I never had a horse, we could never afford one, but mom made sure I got my horseness. She had a childhood friend who has horses, and she purposefully would make friends with horse people. I love horses, unfortunately (you know what I mean (;) it seems so do all three of my children. I would love to get a horse for them (ok, ok for me!)
Love your blog. You are beautiful, and you work hard!

    Blessings! -Natalie

  7. I'm a horse lover!!!!
I've only been riding a hand full of times... but it just felt meant to be. I've never felt as great as when I was riding horses.
I really hope to have one... or at least access to one someday.

  8. I got my first horse for my 12th birthday. His registered name was Andrew's Golden Spirit, but we called him Andy too. I now raise kids in the city and only regret for them never having that experience. I love the quote...every horse should be loved by a little girl. How I loved my Andy! Wow, thanks for bringing back great memories today.

  9. Wonderful post! I loved seeing the pics... I am a horse lover too :) My first love was an Appaloosa Thoroghbred mix named Colida High Star. Oh, the adventures we had together. Sadly, my girls only love horses, they are not horse crazy --- yet!

  10. oh my goodness-what gorgeous photos of the horses & dresses! Another horse lover & owner here. We have 5 horses & a shetland pony. My 15 yr old daughter shows & barrel races with the quarterhorses. My 6 yr old barrel races with the pony (she started last year when she was 5). We have 3 old horses that needed homes-2 of them are retired harness racing horses-they are amazing trail horses & have even participated in 4H events. We LOVE our horses. Holly
